Charles Mingus quote on musicians playing

In the documentary film, Charles Mingus: Triumph of the Underdog, about the life & career of the great jazz composer & bassist, an interviewer asks Mingus & his longtime drummer, Danny Richmond, what they are saying to each other in the "musical conversations" they appear to be having when they play together, "talking to each other on your instruments." Mingus' answer is one for the ages, a truth for musicians & everyone else: "Uh, Fuck you, you dirty motherfucker. You son of a bitch. Sometimes I love you truly. Sometimes Mary had a little lamb." (I must say that this fits well my relationships with most of my former & current bandmates.)
